RAL – system oznaczania barw oparty na porównaniu z wzorcami. W ten sposób oznacza się barwy farb do metalu, lakierów samochodowych w aerozolu, samoprzylepnych folii PVC stosowanych przez plastyków i wiele innych zastosowań, w tym także farb mieszanych komputerowo, niezależnie od ich producentów. Nazwa RAL to skrót zaczerpnięty od nazwy niemieckiej instytucji utworzonej w latach dwudziestych XX wieku: Reichsausschuss für Lieferbedingungen, od roku 1980 nazywanego: Niemieckim Instytutem Jakości i Oznaczeń RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e. V. Jednym z zadań tego instytutu jest systematyzacja opisu barw do zastosowań przemysłowych i handlu. Za jakość odwzorowania barw we wzornikach przez 75 lat odpowiedzialna była jedna firma zajmująca się ich wytwarzaniem, Muster-Schmidt założona w Berlinie w 1905 roku. System powstał w 1927 r. i początkowo zawierał 30 barw, obecnie systematyzuje ich ponad 200. System nie nawiązuje do innych modeli barwnych, barwy zostały wyznaczone arbitralnie. Dla odróżnienia od innych, rozbudowanych systemów oznaczania barw, nazwany został RAL CLASSIC
RAL – color marking system based on comparison with standards. In this way, the colors of metal paints, car spray paints, self-adhesive PVC films used by plastics and many other applications, including computer mixed paints, are determined, regardless of their manufacturers. The name RAL is an abbreviation taken from the name of the German institution established in the 1920s: Reichsausschuss für Lieferbedingungen, since 1980 called: the German Institute for Quality and Markings RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e. V. One of the tasks of this institute is to systematize the description of colors for industrial and commercial use. One company producing them, Muster-Schmidt, established in Berlin in 1905, was responsible for the quality of reproduction of colors in the templates for 75 years. The system was created in 1927 and initially included 30 colors, now it systematizes over 200 of them. The system does not refer to other color models, the colors were determined arbitrarily. To distinguish it from other, complex color marking systems, it was called RAL CLASSIC
